approached the new line which was also losing money and it was arranged the new line should enter the combination and

should furnish a reserve launch. The combination then

consisted of eight Companies employing twelve launches in

the service and having four reserve launches. The fare was

raised to three cents. The launches ran from three points

in Victoria to three points in Yau-ma-ti at intervals of

fifteen minutes. The passenger traffic proved insufficient

to support such continuous service of launches and the

number was reduced from twelve to eight with three launches

in reserve but the night service was carried out by four

launches and one reserve. The launches ran from two points

in Victoria to two points in Yau-ma-ti at fifteen minutes

intervals.

Up to this time no service to Long Kok had existed,

passengers to that place travelling by the Yau-ma-ti service to a pier at Waterloo Road erected by Wong Lan Sang for the

in purpose which,/1909, was used by the combination in substitut-

ion for the Hi Loong Street Pier. The Waterloo Road pier was

about Thirty yards from Mong Kok

In 1910 another competing service was started by four

Companies Krong Fuk, Tung ring, Tack On and Cheng Pui K1,

each contributing one launch and having one reserve.

ran from a pier off Gilman's Bazaar hired for the purpose

to a pier at Pitt Street, Yau-ma-ti, erected by them for the

purpose about Three hundred yards from the Waterloo Road pier.

They charged one cent and the combination had to follow them.

The competition continued for about a year under losing

conditions for all concerned with the result that Wong Lan

Sang approached the competing service and they were admitted

into the combination and the service was carried on by the

twelve launches with four reserves and the fare raised to
